Director’s Note

When Anna first approached me about reviving her one-woman play, this time in New York instead of Oberlin, I was thrilled. Directing this play during our college years felt like a true gift. At the time it was a unique opportunity, as we were able to premiere the play as a theatre-film during the pandemic when little other theater was happening. What made it even more special was that I had never directed an original play before; I felt free to make new choices, knowing that the playwright was there with me the whole time. Anna created a space in which I felt comfortable to collaborate with her in all areas of the play.

In this updated version of DOOM TANK, our character has matured, having moved beyond college. This play has always resonated with me as a poignant coming-of-age story. It delves into themes of fear, growing up, and the desire to be seen while simultaneously hating exposure. I encourage you, however, to find joy and laughter in the spectacle we've created.

I want to say an enormous thank you to Anna for writing a beautiful play and for being my muse. And thank you audience for being here and for celebrating with us. Enjoy the show!

Playwright’s Note

Apparently one woman shows where women have feelings are so 2019. Oops!

Clara, Lina, and Lydia are excellent at what they do; collaborate with them, hire them, pay them to make art. Every opportunity to create and share is a gift. To a life of creative attempts!
